Principal's Bio

Amy Scott joined McSwain Elementary School as their principal in July 2025. Bringing 25 years of experience in education, Amy is delighted to join Staunton City Schools, where Kindness Matters and learning is the focus every day for everyone.

Amy began her teaching career with Arlington Public Schools as a 4th grade teacher and then served as an Instructional Technology Coordinator and Instructional Media Integration Coordinator. She also taught 1st and 2nd grade in Fluvanna County and later was a school administrator for Louisa County. Amy also has served as an adjunct faculty member for several universities across Virginia teaching courses on school leadership, data-driven decision making, and technology integration. Amy spent over a decade abroad working to improve education and health services in Central Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

Amy holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Educational Leadership and Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Social and Philosophical Foundations of Education from the University of Virginia as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Elementary Education from The College of William and Mary. Amy speaks English and Spanish. Outside of work, Amy enjoys traveling, running, and spending time with her family.
